2017 Ducati SuperSport - a great bike for any rider

Category: Blog views: 358

The 2017 Ducati SuperSport was one of the most interesting bikes to come out in 2017 and showcased at the EIMCA show in Milan.

Everyone seemed to have their own opinion on this bike. Some people didn't like it because it didn't seem powerful enough and too small to compete with other sport tourers. It seemed to someone that it did not look like a Ducati sportbike at all. Others didn't like the price and resented why they would buy a beggarly 100 horses for that kind of money instead of a bike like the Aprilia Tuono.

But the point is, they were all wrong. And Ducati was right when they said SuperSport has no competitors. And we are sure the SuperSport will most likely be the perfect sportbike for any of us.

IMPORTANT FEATURES

The 2017 Ducati SuperSport is based on the same 937cc 11-degree Testastretta engine found in the Ducati Hypermotard 939, only this version has a revised crankcase and cylinder heads, and new 53mm throttle bodies. The generator housing, coil and electronic throttle control system have also been changed. These changes, along with new timing, help make throttle response smoother and deliver good low-end power: the 2017 Ducati SuperSport delivers 80% of peak torque at 3,000 rpm and 90% of torque between 5,000 and 9,000 rpm.

Ducati claims 113 horsepower is produced at 9,000 rpm, and at 6,500 rpm, torque reaches a figure of 96.6 Nm.

The Ducati Safety Pack comes standard, which includes Ducati's 8-level traction control system and Bosch's 3-level ABS. The SuperSport S comes standard with a Ducati quickshifter that works in both upshifts and downshifts, but is only available as an option on the SuperSport model. The bike has three riding modes: Sport, Touring and City.

The SuperSport was created to be a premium bike for daily commuting, but also to suit different types of buyers. It has a tubular steel trellis frame that makes the engine an important part of the chassis and connects to a single-sided swingarm. The standard model has a fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi fork and a Sachs shock that is adjustable for preload and rebound, while the SuperSport S model has a 48mm fully adjustable Ohlins fork and a fully adjustable Ohlins shock.

If the SuperSport rake is 24 degrees (like the Panigale 959), then the trail is 5mm smaller (91mm compared to 96mm), which means better balance. This, coupled with improved steering balance, gives the bike better agility, but reduces lean stability (which is perfect for city riding, but annoying on the track). To make it more comfortable for daily commuting, the SuperSport has raised the clip-ons and lowered the footpegs, as well as a windscreen that lowers and raises about 5 cm.

Both bikes have 320mm brake rotors up front and Brembo M4.32 radial four-piston calipers. At the rear, there are a 245mm single disc and twin-piston calipers.

The SuperSport comes with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires 120/70-R17 at the front and 180/55-R17 at the rear.

The saddle height is claimed to be 81cm, but an optional saddle - 25mm higher or 20mm lower - is available.
