2018 BMW M2
The letter M from BMW commands respect in the sports world. The historical German saga reaches the present day with a collection of dreams the starting point of which is the BMW M2. This is the smallest format that the sports division can produce, but be very careful with it because it earns “the best” emblem.
The first M2 we met was in 2016. BMW unveiled it in a big way at the Detroit Auto Show that year. The concept is very reminiscent of the legendary BMW 1M Coupé, which many years ago managed to fall in love with millions of customers. For the M2, the brand followed the same steps; compact sports car, six-cylinder engine, traction and lots of fun.
Exterior
You can see that minor changes have been made - improved adaptive headlights, a slightly angular shape and a slightly different look for the rear lighting. The raised profile contour, starting from the rear wheel and rising along the fender, effectively accentuates the sporty dynamics of the wedge-shaped body.
The front bumper of 2018 two-door BMW M2 Active Tourer has air intakes in a special shape, and the signature false radiator grille with binary slats in black recreates the effect of multidimensionality. Narrow headlights of the leading optics are equipped with xenon emitters.
Interior
The interior of the BMW 2 Series Coupe introduces some innovations:
- Decorated carbon strips
- Reclining headrests
- Multifunctional steering wheel
- Velor mats
- Sliding armrests
- Dimming exterior and interior mirrors
- Anti-glare mirror main
- Sports seats
- Leather upholstery of seats and steering wheel rim
- Textured carbon fiber inserts
- Convenient access to controls
- First aid kit
Specifications
Compared to the BMW M235i, the full-fledged M has slightly increased in size, and even the wheelbase has grown by 3 mm (to 2,693). The length has increased by 14 mm (up to 4,468), and the width has increased by all 80 (up to 1,854 mm). In general, the track has become wider at the front and rear by 64 and 71 mm, respectively.
Under the hood of the BMW M2 Coupe in a new body there is a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engine, partially unified with what is installed on the new MZ / M4. The engine produces 370 hp and peak torque is 465 Nm and is available in a wide range (from 1,400 to 5,560 rpm). There is an Overboost function, which briefly increases traction to 500 Nm.
The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed M DCT robotic transmission with two clutches. In the first case, it takes 4.5 seconds to accelerate to hundreds (0.4 seconds faster than the 1 M Coupe), and in the second - 4.2 seconds (but this is when the quick start function is activated, which is included in the standard equipment of cars with a robot). The top speed in both cases is limited to 250 km/h, and with the optional M Driver's package - to 275 km/h.
