2020 INFINITI Q50 — A DYNAMIC SEDAN WITH A BI-TURBO ENGINE, ALL-WHEEL DRIVE AND UNIQUE OPTIONS

Like the BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the 2020 Infiniti Q50 is available in both standard and “charged” versions. In the first case, a 2-liter turbocharged engine is offered, in the second, a 3-liter twin-turbo unit is installed on the car, combined with all-wheel drive. In comparison with its direct competitors, the Infiniti Q50 has unique equipment. The basic configurations use standard equipment for cars of this class: a multimedia complex, a wide range of safety systems and more. But in the basic version there are 2 touchscreens, and in the top version, premium acoustics with 16 speakers appear. In addition, the car has an exhaust gas neutralization system.

Technical equipment

The 2020 Infiniti Q50 is interesting in that its steering wheel is not directly connected to the drive wheels. The latter are controlled by on-board electronics, which make appropriate decisions based on data from various sensors. However, in the event of equipment failure, an electromagnetic clutch is connected, which transmits signals from the steering wheel to the drive wheels. The second important point is that the Infiniti Q50 is equipped with a fully independent suspension (double wishbones in front, multi-link in the rear).

By default, the initial modification of the Japanese sedan has a 2-liter turbocharged engine under the hood, developing no more than 211 hp of useful power and 350 Nm of torque. This engine is equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission. With this equipment, the sedan delivers the first 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, consuming an average of 7 liters of fuel. Such enviable dynamic performance is partly due to the low ground clearance of 126 mm.

The top-end Infiniti Q50 is equipped with a 6-cylinder twin-turbo engine with a volume of 3 liters. The maximum output of this engine reaches 405 hp, the traction level is 475 Nm. This engine is equipped with the same gearbox and a plug-in all-wheel drive. With such a technical part, the Japanese sedan gains the first "hundred" in 5.4 seconds and consumes about 9.3 liters of fuel.

Design

The Infiniti Q50 stands out due to its elongated hood, which, in combination with the sloping front pillars, gives the sedan body a swift appearance. This picture is complemented by the stampings that run along the side doors and different-sized wheel arches. The radiator grille of the Q50 is standard. It is framed by a metal perimeter. The narrow LED headlights sharply go towards the wheel arches. The front bumper, which is relatively compact for a sedan, is complemented by a small strip of air intake.

The Q50's stern looks voluminous. This effect is formed due to the rounded line of the trunk lid, on top of which there is a spoiler, and the protruding rear bumper. The stern also has trapezoidal headlights connected to each other by a metal strip. The rear bumper has round exhaust pipes spaced apart on the sides.

The first thing that catches your eye when examining the Infiniti Q50's interior is the two touch screens located on the center console. Thanks to them, the manufacturer was able to minimize the number of physical keys inside the car. On the transmission tunnel, in addition to the gearshift lever, there is a large washer, by means of which the suspension is adjusted. The instrument panel is also quite originally designed, which seems to go beyond the standard limits.
