2021 HONDA PASSPORT: WHAT MAKES A CROSSOVER SO POPULAR?
The Japanese company Honda has been actively producing urban crossovers for many years, which also includes the Passport model. This car appeared on the North American market in 2019 and became a serious competitor for the Mitsubishi Outlander, Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan Qashqai. In the United States, the 2021 Honda Passport model can be purchased in four basic trim levels, with prices starting at $32.7 thousand.
Specifications
The 2021 Honda Passport boasts impressive technical characteristics compared to its direct competitors. This vehicle is equipped with a 3.5-liter gasoline power unit and a 9-speed automatic transmission. In the top version, the car can only be purchased with all-wheel drive. In more affordable trim levels, car enthusiasts can independently choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variations. The power of the power unit is 280 horsepower and 356 Nm of torque. This car fully complies with the environmental safety requirements of Euro-6.
This modern urban crossover boasts impressive dimensions for its class, and namely:
- length - 4,839 mm;
- width - 1,996 mm;
- height - 1,819 mm;
- wheelbase - 2,819 mm;
- curb weight - 1,796 kg;
- ground clearance - 191 mm.
This model also stands out for its spacious luggage compartment of 1,161 liters and 2,180 liters with the rear passenger seats folded or for 5-seat version.
Design
Aimed at the US automotive market, the Honda Passport crossover boasts both an attractive appearance and a very well-thought-out interior design. The crossover turned out to be lively and bright, with individual notes that distinguish the car as a sports model. This is evidenced by the aggressive front part, which received an unusually shaped head optics, a black angular radiator grille and low-set fog lights. Also, from the front, the car stands out with a stylish chin on the bumper, where a neat air intake is also located. From the side and from the stern, the model no longer looks so bold and is more reminiscent of an average crossover. If we talk about the interior, it is made mainly in dark colors, which once again emphasizes the status of the car. Here you can see the practicality acceptable for a Japanese manufacturer, as well as an abundance of modern design solutions combined with high-tech components.
Handling and off-road characteristics
The 2021 Honda Passport crossover presented in this review boasts excellent handling, excellent driving performance and good cross-country ability. The manufacturers managed to achieve this thanks to the appropriate equipment of the suspension system. An independent spring suspension is installed on the car along the entire perimeter, and in addition, anti-roll bars are provided. This allows the crossover to confidently hold the road and maneuver regardless of the speed. Also, this car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes in the front and conventional disc brakes in the rear. The cross can feel confident off-road until it encounters a serious obstacle on the way. The problem lies in the fact that the model did not receive an impressive ground clearance, like most SUVs. Therefore, the SUV should be considered only as a city car that will allow the car enthusiast to get out into nature for active recreation.
