2021 SUBARU FORESTER IS A REFERENCE CROSSOVER THAT EASILY OVERCOMES DIFFICULT OFF-ROAD

The 2021 Subaru Forester is considered one of the best crossovers in its class. The Japanese model earned this title largely due to its excellent off-road capabilities, which are partly provided by permanent all-wheel drive, which redistributes torque among the axles taking into account the current situation. To do this, the engineers lowered the center of mass as low as possible, achieved ideal weight distribution and supplemented the car with permanent all-wheel drive, which redistributes torque between the axles in the proportion dictated by the current situation. The crossover's suspension is no less high-quality. At the front, it has standard MacPherson struts. At the rear, the manufacturer placed double wishbones with a fairly long stroke, thanks to which the suspension “swallows” even large irregularities well.

The Forester comes with 2 boxer engines with direct fuel injection. The base role is played by a 2-liter unit that develops up to 150 hp. power and 196 Nm of torque. In top modifications, a 2.5-liter engine appears under the hood of the crossover. Its maximum power was increased to 185 hp. at 239 N*m of torque. Each of these engines is combined with a continuously variable transmission, which is complemented by a durable chain drive.

The total length of the Japanese new product reaches 4625 mm with a wheelbase of 2670 mm. The crossover width is 1815 mm, height – 1730 mm. Ground clearance is 220 mm.

Handling and off-road performance

As noted, the 2021 Subaru Forester is designed for off-road driving. The Japanese model is complemented by default with a proprietary system that reconfigures the operation of the transmission, engine, steering and other equipment depending on the current situation. In particular, such equipment greatly simplifies the descent from the mountain. An equally important role in ensuring excellent cross-country ability is played by the aforementioned all-wheel drive, high ground clearance and the successful configuration of the front and rear bumpers.

In terms of handling, there are no complaints from owners about the Forester. The Japanese crossover holds the road confidently, corners well and quickly recovers its position in the event of a skid.

Design

After the modernization, the Forester retained its recognizable shape, but also acquired several new parts. The crossover's radiator grille has a trapezoidal shape and is lined with many small horizontal slats. To the side of it there is a fairly large LED optics, under which the manufacturer has placed a two-section niche reserved for fog lights and ventilation holes. Along the bottom, engineers laid a plastic body kit that fits the wheel arches and side doors. At the stern, original lights with LED lights attract attention.

The interior of the Forester is designed in a premium style. The interior is generously lined with faux leather, the color of which varies depending on the buyer's preferences. Almost the entire part of the center console is occupied by a protruding touch monitor, above which there is another compact screen, and below it is a climate control unit with large washers. The transmission tunnel is located quite low in relation to the driver's seat, which negatively affects ergonomics.

Thanks to the relatively large size of the car, the Forester can comfortably accommodate three adults in the back seat. The luggage compartment holds up to 550 liters of cargo. With the rear row backrests folded, this figure increases to 1,775 liters.
