BMW 4 Series – an exclusive sedan in coupe and convertible bodies

The 2019 BMW 4 Series becomes a step above the previous model. It transforms a small premium sedan into a more sophisticated and fun-to-drive coupe or convertible.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE 2019 MODEL

The list of standard equipment has grown to include navigation with real-time traffic updates, a free 12-month subscription to Apple CarPlay, parking sensors at both ends of the car and a new display.

Option packages have been changed.

The wider BMW 4 Series range includes the four-door Gran Coupe model. There are also two high-performance versions of the M4.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND OPTION PACKAGES

The 2019 BMW 4 Series is available in coupes and convertibles. Models with larger engines have more standard equipment. The all-wheel drive option costs $2,000 more.

COUPE 440I

The BMW 440i coupe's biggest draw is its powerful inline-six engine.

The 440i, in addition to the above features, also has:

• opening the car door and ignition without keys;
• hands-free trunk opening function;
• a Nappa leather steering wheel and an upgraded 400-watt Harmon Kardon stereo with 16 speakers.

CONVERTIBLES

The BMW 440i convertibles are essentially the same as the coupe but feature retractable hardtops, wind deflectors, folding rear seats and additional heating vents.

In a typical BMW model, the list of options is quite long and often expensive.

The M Sport package (for 440i) adds:

• special external finishing;
• body kit;
• sports suspension;
• M steering wheel and M-gasket inside and outside.

The Track Handling package includes M-tuned adaptive suspension, a variable-ratio sports steering wheel and specially designed 18-inch wheels.

The Convenience package includes:

• heated front seats;
• front seat lumbar support and active blind spot monitoring.

The Executive package adds adaptive LED headlights and automatic high beams, side- and top-view cameras and self-parking.

Additional options include adaptive sport suspension, heated steering wheel, wireless charging, Wi-Fi and some additional driver aids.

All models are compatible with BMW apps, so you can access any social network using your smartphone.

The 2019 BMW 4 Series Coupe has 445 liters of trunk space, which is remarkable considering the car's relatively modest size.

The convertible has 368 liters with the roof in place, but when the top is retracted, cargo space shrinks to 221 liters.

SAFETY

The new BMW 4 Series is equipped with a stabilizer, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with shock mitigation mechanisms and a full set of airbags (including front, knee and side airbags).

The driving assistance system includes active cruise control with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, with blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning.

Also BMW Assist is offered, which includes automatic notifications of accidents, breakdowns and roadside assistance.

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, FUEL CONSUMPTION

Like most BMW vehicles, the 4 Series comes with rear-wheel drive. An all-wheel drive system (called xDrive) is optional.

The 440i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 320 horsepower and 447 pound-feet of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is also initially installed here, but a manual transmission is available for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive coupes.

Fuel economy per 100 km for the rear-wheel drive 440i coupe is 11.2 liters city, 7.4 liters highway, 9.4 liters average (automatic), or 13.1 liters city, 8.4 liters highway, 10.7 liters average (manual).

The all-wheel drive 440i xDrive coupe gets 11.2 mpg in the city, 7.6 mpg on the highway, 9.8 mpg combined (automatic) and 13.1 mpg in the city, 8.4 mpg on the highway and 11.2 mpg combined (manual).

The 440i Convertible is rated at 11.2/8.1/9.8 city/highway average (rear-wheel drive) or 11.8/8.1 city/highway/10.2 average (all-wheel drive).

Both engines have an automatic fuel saver feature that can be turned off.
