CAR NOISE INSULATION

Category: Blog views: 1320

Factory noise isolation of the car for many drivers is insufficient due to the many noises during movement. That is why sooner or later there is a question of performing additional noise insulation in a car service center, at an official dealer, or independently with your own hands. What materials for sound insulation to use and which zones are included in the work are the main questions that arise in the mind of the car owner. And this is despite the fact that this procedure is not performed for the first year.

Pros and cons of car noise insulation

Sometimes the following question arises: why is complete sound insulation not performed at the factory? There are several reasons. The first and most significant: the increase in the cost of the car due to each completed work. Second: the time for performing sound insulation. At factories, every minute of work is registered, and violation of these deadlines is impossible.

Noise insulation has pros and minor cons that every car owner should know about before carrying out this complex technical process.

Advantages of sound insulation:

  • Comfort while driving. Thanks to the work done, the driver stops hearing constant external noises, both on the highway and in the city, which undoubtedly makes any trip more comfortable;
  • Protective function. After performing de-noise, parts of the car become more protected from corrosion and from external mechanical impact;
  • Audio sound. After completing the work, the sound of any song will significantly improve in the salon, and listening to music will become more pleasant;
  • Maintaining the temperature in the car interior. Due to the additional equipment of the car, the interior better preserves cold temperature from the air conditioner and warm temperature from the heater.

There are not so many disadvantages, and they are insignificant, but they are:

  • Absolute noise isolation can lead to poor audibility of sounds on the road (signals, etc.);
  • Weight. With the implementation of the service, the weight of the car will increase, which threatens not a significant increase in fuel consumption;
  • Possible refusal of warranty repairs. Due to the performance of the service, the service may refuse to repair the car under warranty.

Car noise isolation zones

You can de-noise almost any part of the car:

  • Doors. This is the most popular part of sound insulation used by car owners. This is due to the fact that it is through the doors that about 70% of the noise gets into the cabin, and after the procedure, the acoustics inside the car improve;
  • Floor. Not so popular for de-noise, but also has a place to be;
  • Ceiling. Most often, noise insulation of the ceiling is performed by drivers who often drive at high speeds and on the highway, but sometimes even by ordinary drivers, so as not to hear even raindrops hitting the roof of the car;
  • Hood and trunk. The service will help you get rid of noise in the front and back of the car, although there are not very many of them. Noise insulation of the hood is often performed to protect against corrosion and external influences (crushed stone, etc.);
  • Arches. They are slightly less popular than doors, but they are also very popular for car noise reduction.

Materials for sound insulation and types

To eliminate any noise in the car interior, several types of materials are used. There are 3 of them in total:

  • Sound insulation materials. Designed to eliminate any noise. They are called Vibroplast and Isoplast. There are two types of them. The first type reflects all kinds of sounds, and the second type absorbs and destroys the same sounds;
  • Vibration-proofing materials. These include Isoplast, Vibroplast, and other materials. They are similar to rubber, which perfectly eliminates any vibrations;
  • Universal materials – the most popular material for car sound insulation. Successfully copes with vibration and any noise, as sound insulation and vibration isolation materials separately. The main and, probably, its only negative feature is weight.
