Cadillac has unveiled its first electric car, the Lyriq crossover. Note that the concept version of this model was demonstrated in the summer of the twentieth, and the car remained practically unchanged on the way to the series. Outside, the electric SUV has a stylish stub instead of a grille, as well as narrow stripes of headlights and lanterns, although the optics on the product model are still slightly wider than those of the mentioned prototype.

At the same time, the car still has a well-built streamlined body with “recessed” door handles, although the developers abandoned the side cameras in favor of traditional mirrors. Depending on the configuration, the car can have wheels with a diameter of 20 to 22 inches. Compared to the concept, physical buttons and handles have been added to the interior of the Lyric crossover, but the Americans again retained the main feature of the model. We are talking about a single 33.0-inch display on the front panel, which here plays the role of both tidy and entertainment system. This monitor is slightly curved and boasts the widest color gamut (1 billion colors).

You can control most of the functions just the same from the touchscreen, although Cadillac specialists still retained a separate climate control button unit. Interestingly, they first placed the front seat electric controls on the doors (like Mercedes-Benz). For expensive versions of the crossover, wood veneer and metal finishes are typical. AKG music with nine speakers and an active noise reduction system are also designed to please passengers.

The 2021-2022 Cadillac Lyriq is built on a versatile modular platform familiar from the new GMC Hummer. However, on a crossover, this "trolley" is still noticeably simpler - with rear-wheel drive and a conventional spring suspension. The electric car reaches a length of 4,996 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,094 mm. Its width and height are 1,977 and 1,623 mm, respectively. The trunk volume “under the curtain” is declared at the level of 793 liters, and if you fold the rear row seats, the capacity of the compartment increases to 1,723 liters. The car does not have a front trunk.

The SUV will debut on the market in a rear-wheel drive version with a single electric motor with a capacity of 340 hp. and 440 Nm. Such a modification weighs as much as 2,545 kg, and the company does not disclose its dynamics. In the future, the car will acquire all-wheel drive versions. The machine is equipped with a new generation Ultium lithium-ion traction battery, developed jointly with LG Chem. The battery has a capacity of 100 kWh, while it is characterized by a fairly low content of expensive cobalt.

The electric car is supposed to have several levels of recuperation at once, and the maximum of them allows you to drive “in one pedal”. The power reserve of the model is declared at the level of 483 km (according to the American EPA standard). You can recharge the crossover battery both from a household outlet and from DC terminals with a power of up to 190 kW. When using the latter, only 10 minutes are enough to replenish the power reserve of 122 km.

In terms of equipment, Cadillac's first electric car boasts a "Super Cruise" system. The electric car will be produced at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. The American brand will spend as much as 2.0 billion dollars on the modernization of this enterprise, while another 2.3 billion will go to the construction of the Ultium Cells battery factory nearby.
