Different Paint Protectors for Cars
When it comes to protection of your vehicle there are many options available in the market.
There are many paint protection products out there varying in price, and of course quality. However, price alone should not be the deciding factor when buying a product to improve your car's appearance. What you want to achieve, should be the deciding factor. A product that protects from bird droppings, UV Rays, acid rain, road salt, bug residue is obviously worth a few dollars more to you, then one that just gives a temporary shine.
The most popular paint protectors in world are glass, wax, and ceramic coating. Let’s look at pros and cons of these protectors!

Glass Coating
Glass coatings, which are usually made out of silica, contain particles of silicon dioxide applied on resin to form a thin and transparent coat on a surface of the car. It prevents the paint of the car from oxidizing and keeps the elements from damaging.
It is worth to mention, that glass coating gives a car a ‘wet’ look, which helps to achieve a shine that most car owners dream about. The glass coating forms a long-lasting bond with the car, repelling both water and dirt.
However, glass coatings are often expensive and it would take a couple of hours for most workshops to apply a layer. In addition, some workshops use glass coatings that contain organic compounds such as carbon.
Advantages: Long-lasting coating, repels dirt and water, and prevents rusting and oxidation
Disadvantages: Long application period, organic compounds is affected by surroundings, reapplication is required every six months to a year.
Car Wax
The combination of acid rain, dust and the sun affect the car’s paint a lot. Many car owners try to get their cars waxed a few times a year. Probably it is the simplest and cheapest option. Wax protection gives the car some shine, but at the same time, quickens the damage to the paint.
Paraffin, the main ingredient in most car waxing products, is what gives a car its shine. However, it is greatly affected by heat and water, making its lifespan rather short in a hot and humid climate.
Moreover, the oily nature of car wax also attracts dust particles that stick on the car surface. So when we wash our cars, these dust particles leave tiny scratches on the paint of the car.
Advantages: Affordable
Disadvantages: Temporary and must be done a few times a year, dust particles will still get stuck on the car, and some small scratches may appear on the car.
Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating is a liquid that can be applied to the car surface. When applied, it forms a protective hydrophobic layer through the chemical bonding. It is very similar to a glass coating, offering almost the same benefits.
For ceramic coating, a layer of long-lasting acrylic elements and polymers is applied to form a layer of protective coating. This coating acts like a glass barrier that is anti-static, hard, and transparent.
Moreover, it offers additional qualities like corrosion protection, and is resistant to water and detergent. It also helps to slow down such environmental damage as oxidation and rusting.
Having this coating, you will only need to wash your car once a month with water. Dirt should easily come off with the swipe of a dry, clean cloth.
Nevertheless, ceramic coating is not cheap. A high-quality ceramic coating could cost several hundred dollars. However, it can be used for several years.
Advantages: Long-lasting coating, repels dirt and water, prevents rusting and oxidation, protects vehicle against minor scratches, does not need special care..
Disadvantages: High price..
But you shouldn’t forget about the importance of taking proper care of the car!
For example, a good quality car shampoo is very important as it minimizes (not eliminates) surface scratching from friction when washing. A good quality soft pile wash sponge or wash mitt is a must.
