Global transport electrification reached a new level when Ford introduced the Mustang Mach-E. And it is not a technological breakthrough — companies from Silicon Valley have already demonstrated it — but a cultural shift. Electric cars have become the vehicles for most people - at least in the USA.

According to Ted Cannis, one of Ford's directors, it’s not the technology itself and its disadvantages, but the lack of reliable information that prevents customers from switching to electric cars. Electric transport is surrounded by many myths, but the company intends to fight them.

Few American brands boast the same love and recognition as the Ford Mustang.

The team of engineers had a difficult task - to turn the Mustang into an electric SUV, upgrade it, but leave it recognizable. According to Gordon Platto, director of design, somewhere in the middle of this process they had to decide on extreme measures and change not only the appearance, but also the architecture of the car.

It is noted that the premiere of the new model took place at a special event in Los Angeles (USA) in November. The main competitors of the electric car on the market will be Tesla Model Y and Jaguar I-Pace.

The car is built on the Global Electrified 2 (GE2) platform. The crossover received front and rear optics in the style of a Ford Mustang coupe, high ground clearance and the original closed grille. The model has no traditional door handles. Instead, special buttons are installed.

In the cabin on the front panel there is a large touch screen display of the infotainment system. In addition, the car received a digital dashboard, a Bang & Olufsen audio system with 10 speakers and a panoramic roof.

Engineers developed the most powerful electric motors in the company's history. According to Anand Sankaran, director of electrification, The Mach-E has a 210 kW motor.

As it has already been mentioned above, the car is equipped with the Sync Infotainment system, which uses machine learning to study driver preferences. The developers also added a panel for wirelessly charging the smartphone near the cup holders, TechCrunch notes.

Mustang Mach-E will be available in standard Select version with a 75.7 kWh lithium-ion battery. The electric car will be made with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The rear-wheel drive version will be able to drive without recharging about 370 km (230 miles), its power is 255 h.p. The all-wheel drive version will allow you to drive up to 337 km (210 miles). The Mustang Mach-E in Select version will be produced in the spring of 2021.

In the extended Premium package, the car will have a 98.8 kWh battery for trips on a single charge up to 482 km (300 miles). Ford customers will also be able to choose the rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive version. Their power varies from 255 to 333 h.p. The car will go on sale at the end of 2020.

The limited edition of the First Edition model, which accelerates to hundreds in 3.5 seconds and can travel without recharging 435 km, will cost $ 50,600. The GT Performance price tag starts at $ 60,500, its 98.8 kW battery is enough for 400 km.
