Maserati Ghibli 2019: "affordable" Italian sports sedan

The Shanghai Auto Show in 2013 was the official debut of the third generation of the Maserati Ghibli coupe sedan, which is the younger “brother” of the flagship Quattroporte.

In 2016, the car went through a planned restyling, during which the manufacturer limited itself to only minor modifications to the exterior, as well as the addition of two new performance options - Luxury and Sport. Most likely, in this way the company's management made it clear that Ghibli already has a perfect design and first-class content.

The appearance of Maserati Ghibli

When creating Maserati Ghibli, the designers were inspired by the appearance of Maserati Quattroporte, as evidenced by the “muzzle” made in the same style and the profile of the coupe-shaped sedan.

The front part of the body shows a predatory look of the head optics, a relief hood, a large false radiator grille with a branded trident in the center, as well as a complex front bumper with a built-in air intake.

By the way, in GranLusso version, the car flaunts one section of the air intake, while in GranSport version there are three ones.

The swift profile is distinguished by the presence of a long hood, a domed roof, a lean stern, as well as elegant stampings on the sidewalls. Circular wheel arches with 18-inch wheels, as well as branded “gills” and the trident emblem, located immediately behind the front arches and in the rear pillar, respectively, are also worth noting.

The stern of the car is represented by impressive ceiling lights with full LED filling, a large trunk lid with the inscription “Maserati” located in the center, the name of the version and model. There is also a monumental bumper with a pair of LED foglights and two pairs of exhaust system trunks.

In GranSport version, the rear bumper is complemented by a kind of sports diffuser.

Ghibli interior

The interior of the new Maserati Ghibli has a laconic, but at the same time modern design of the front dashboard, which is fully wrapped in first-class genuine leather. By the way, only luxury materials are used in the cabin, and the assembly will not cause any complaints even from the most inveterate critics.

In front of the driver, there is a neat three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with a trident in the center, as well as a well-read instrument panel, represented by a pair of large dials and a 7-inch color on-board computer display.

At the top of the central panel, the designers installed a small analog clock, and right below it lives an elegantly beaten 8.4-inch “TV” of a multimedia complex that supports synchronization with smartphones based on iOS and Android.

Even lower, there is a concise block responsible for controlling the air conditioning system.

An impressive central tunnel runs between the seats, dividing the salon into two separate cockpits. On the central tunnel, there is a stylish gearshift lever, several mechanical push-button switches and a multi-function washer.

The rear sofa is profiled for two riders, who are offered a royal level of comfort and an impressive amount of free space. If necessary, a third passenger can also be accommodated here, but he will have to put up with a strongly protruding pillow and a high transmission tunnel.

Despite the sporty focus, the Maserati Ghibli is a fairly practical car, as evidenced by the trunk volume, which is impressive by the standards of the class of 500 liters.

Also, a few words should be said about the interior trim, which in the GranLusso version is replete with a lot of chrome and wood, and in the GranSport version - carbon fiber and aluminum. However, for a surcharge, the buyer can order an individual finish.

Specifications of 2019 Maserati Ghibli

The updated Maserati Ghibli can be equipped with one of three power plants:

  • 3-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel generating 275 hp. and 600 Nm of rotational thrust. With it, the sedan is able to accelerate to 250 km/h, and it takes 6.3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100. Combined fuel consumption is claimed at 5.9 l/100 km, which is an excellent result for a car of more than 1.75 tons.
  • 3-liter six-cylinder petrol engine producing 350 hp and 500 Nm of thrust. With it, the car shoots up to a hundred in 5.5 seconds and can reach a maximum mark of 267 km/h. The average fuel consumption is fixed at around 8.9 liters per hundred.
  • Top-end gasoline engine with a volume of 3 liters and a capacity of 430 "horses" (580 Nm of torque). The Ghibli S and S Q4 versions are equipped with this engine, where the first accelerates from zero to hundreds in 5 seconds, and the second in 4.8 seconds. The maximum speed is 285 and 284 km/h respectively, while the average consumption ranges from 9.6 to 10.2 l / 100 km.

Regardless of the type and power of the engine, it is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF, which allows you to select one of five preset operating modes.
