Design
In fact, the price was almost the only advantage of the old Trax. The crossover screamed cheap and felt out of place anywhere but in a rental car park.
The new crossover will get a sportier and more modern design inspired by the big Blazer. At the rear, we see sculpted body shapes with flowing lines and sinuous surfaces. They are joined by a sloping roof and a dynamic beltline.
Other features include a plastic perimeter on the bottom, a hidden exhaust and C-shaped taillights. The model also features an angular rear window and unique design details in each of the five trim levels.
Options
The base $21,495 LS comes with 17-inch steel wheels, while the $23,395 LT has a more modern design with bright finishes and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Buyers looking for a sportier look can choose from two RS trim levels. The $23,195 RS1 has a unique grille and larger 18-inch wheels. The $24,995 RS2 has a similar look but on 19-inch aluminum wheels.
And finally, another version is Trax ACTIV, the price of which starts at $24,995. It features chrome accents, a redesigned rear bumper, and 18-inch black-trimmed wheels.
Dimensions
The improved appearance is partly due to the new Trax's larger dimensions: 279mm longer, 101mm lower and 51mm wider than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also grown by nearly 152mm, giving an additional 76mm of much-needed rear seat legroom.
Interior
If entry-level usually means boring and plastic interiors, the Trax's interior is a breath of fresh air as it features a modern and upscale design.
As Chevrolet explained, the interior has "a sense of lightness achieved through broad lines and elements that accentuate the car's width and create a sense of airiness."
There is still a lot of plastic in the cabin, but a wide front fascia with round air vents stands out against this background. Elsewhere, we see high-gloss black trim and metallic accents that help give the cabin a more premium feel.
Buyers will also find several features not typically found on budget models, including tinted windows as standard and active noise cancellation technology.
Equipment
Available trim levels LS and 1RS have an analog instrument panel with a 3.5-inch display. This is joined by an 8-inch display infotainment system that boasts wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
More expensive LT, 2RS and ACTIV are equipped with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11-inch infotainment screen. These models are also equipped with automatic climate control and start push button. In addition, the 1RS, 2RS and ACTIV trims feature heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, while the ACTIV boasts a power driver's seat.
In addition to equipment differences, the RS2 has a flat-bottomed steering wheel and red contrast stitching. Buyers will also find several options, including a sunroof and a new wireless smartphone charger on LT, 2RS and ACTIV trims.

Safety Systems
To ensure the safety of drivers, a standard set of Chevy Safety Assist driver assistance systems is provided. It includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian collision avoidance and forward collision warning. There are also a reversing camera, IntelliBeam headlights and Lane Keep Assist with lane departure warning.
Cruise control is standard, while adaptive cruise control is available on higher trims. Buyers can also get more advanced safety features such as lane change warning with side blind spot information, reverse cross traffic alert and reverse parking assistant.
