THE NEWEST MAZDA ARATA IS THE JAPANESE BRAND'S SECOND ATTEMPT TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL ELECTRIC CROSSOVER
At the Beijing Auto Show, Mazda unveiled the "Arata", an electric SUV that will enter the Chinese market as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y by 2025. Mazda is entering the electric vehicle segment, targeting one of the fastest growing markets in the world.

The Arata is an electric SUV, the production of which is planned to start by the end of next year. The brand’s previous “green” crossover, the MX-30, never became successful, but she’s not giving up.
Like the EZ-6 sedan, the Arata is developed by the Changan Mazda joint venture. Most likely, a different name will be used for the production version, possibly alphanumeric, like other SUVs. The name "EZ-60" has already been patented in China, so it can be used for this car.
The Arata (meaning “new” or “fresh” in Japanese) is a striking electric crossover that could technically be related to an existing model in China. While the EZ-6 is a redesign of the Changan Deepal SL03, the EZ-60 is likely to be based on the Changan Deepal S7. But this will not just be a replacement of emblems, but serious changes in design. Models from Mazda will be more premium and richly equipped, and, therefore, will become more expensive than analogues from Changan.
This collaboration allows Mazda to leverage Changan's expertise and resources, potentially leading to the sharing of technology and advancements between Arata and Changan's Deepal S7.
It is expected that the Mazda Arata will be similar in size to the Mazda CX-5. According to preliminary estimates, the length of the Chinese model will be 4.75 meters, width - 1.93 meters, and height - 1.62 meters. Thus, the new product belongs to mid-size SUVs, which are perfect for both urban and suburban conditions.
Although Mazda has revealed the design and purpose of the Arata, specific technical details regarding its performance, range and features are not yet available.
Changan has already demonstrated its capabilities in producing electric vehicles with an impressive range, with some models traveling up to 620 kilometers on a single charge. For SUVs similar in size to the Arata, charging time is typically around 35 minutes to reach 80 percent battery capacity.
Under the hood, the new CX-5 would logically adopt the front- or all-wheel-drive Small Platform architecture from the latest Mazda 3 hatchback/sedan, CX-30 and CX-50.

This would improve ride comfort, noise, vibration and harshness suppression, but it could see Mazda ditch the current CX-5’s multi-link independent rear suspension for a simpler torsion beam setup.
The Arata is purely electric, at least for now, while the EZ-6 will also be sold with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The crossover received a new variation of the familiar Kodo corporate design. Like the sedan, there is an illuminated radiator grille. The large Mazda lettering on the sides is also illuminated.
Since it's still a concept, it comes with cameras instead of regular mirrors and also lacks door handles and a rear wiper. But it is already known that the concept will turn into a production model by the end of 2025. And the EZ-6 sedan will go on sale this year. At the rear, a large spoiler, divided in the middle by a brake light, attracts attention.
