Silicon Valley GoodYear Innovation Lab – Innovations in Tire Industry

Category: Blog views: 1928

This month we have visited Silicon Valley GoodYear Innovation Lab, the department of the one of the largest tire’s company in the world. It employs about 65,000 people and manufactures its products in 47 facilities in 21 countries around the world.

GoodYear’s Silicon Valley office is an extension of the company’s global innovation network. It combines development centers, innovation centers, and tire proving grounds all over the world. Moreover, this network includes open innovation partnerships with numerous customers, suppliers, governments and universities.

The main focus of this office is the collaboration with automakers and startups, as well as the development of tire technologies for their better performance on autonomous vehicles.

Though the core of their business is the development of innovative, high quality tires, the company also offers a range of services for the transport industry to ensure the excellence of the company’s products.

Goodyear, being an innovation leader in the tire industry, has nearly 120 years’ experience in the tire and vehicle expertise dealing with different types of vehicles: passenger vehicles and commercial trucks, aircraft, and even earthmovers.

In addition to the fact that GoodYear EMEA* FleetFirst provides premium quality tires and service support, it also provides round-the-clock roadside assistance. This approach helps to optimize fuel economy and longer tire life. It is quite essential as the price of new tires and their maintenance can reach up to 56% of all vehicle operating costs.

The company also provides FleetOnlineSolulions (FOS) service that takes the worry of tire maintenance away from truck fleets. The major advantage of this service is that vehicle details and service requirements of each customer are logged in the system. All related Goodyear service-providers can access this system via the internet and in the local language. This feature ensures the availability of service anywhere and at any time, and exactly to the customer's requirements.

The company develops continuously. This year is not an exception. This time Jose Pablo Diaz Salazar and his team (the Manager Innovation Lab of GoodYear
Tire & Rubber Company in San Francisco) also shared with us the information about a new pilot designed to be able to extract the data from the car to monetize that data.

Moreover, the GoodYear company is always looking for partners through their partnership program.
