Subaru WRX 2017-2018: restyled model

In 2017 the Japanese brand Subaru introduced its sports model Subaru WRX in a new body, as well as a special modification of the STI car. Their solemn presentation took place in Detroit.

The Subaru WRX and WRX STI sports sedans guarantee impressive performance that can be compared to the best sport cars in the world, while offering a balanced starting price. The driver will be pleased to choose from among the best of the best. With standard all-wheel drive, the WRXs have better adherence than the Volkswagen GTI, Honda Civic Si or Ford Focus ST. All-wheel drive VW Golf R and Ford Focus RS are considered rivals of this sedan.

Under the hood of a sports novelty, one of three power units can be installed:

• 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 268 horses (for basic equipment). In this case, a mechanical transmission works in 6 steps;
• the next version has a different gearbox - the Lineartronic CVT variator;
• the third and most expensive version will receive a 2.5-liter tubular engine with a capacity of 300 horses. Six-speed “mechanics” is used here.

All engines are equipped with four cylinders, as well as a timing belt with sixteen valves.

Manufacturers also noted that any representative of the WRX version is equipped exclusively with front-wheel drive, but there is a special 4WD modification that has received a modern all-wheel drive system.

Basic equipment

The base Subaru WRX car come with automatic climate control, a rearview camera, an audio system with a Starlink screen, Bluetooth, Pandora, iHeart radio and a USB input. There are 17-inch alloy wheels with high-performance tires and a torque vectoring system. The Subaru WRX STI versions received dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and suede trim. Seven pillows and a significant list of stabilization aids take care of safety.

Optional equipment

Most options are distributed according to the appropriate configuration levels. So, the Premium models are complemented by rotated suspension struts, fog lights and a package for any weather with heated front seats, large wheels and tires. “Limited” models have a navigation system, a driver's seat with eight tuning modes and leather trim. There can also be a rear view system with a function for detecting blind spots and a warning about movement in the cross direction behind the car. EyeSight and active cruise control are only available for the Limited model.

It is worth noting that restyling did not greatly affect the appearance of the Japanese novelty. Basically, only the small details of the front end have changed. In particular, we are talking about the grille and air intake. Critics noted that the front of the car is very similar to the Impreza model after the latest updates.

The brand leaders immediately noted that after the restyling, the car became much quieter and more comfortable - and it is all thanks to the new material, which was used to improve sound insulation. In addition, more expensive and high-quality gaskets were used on all doors.

A multimedia complex with a 7-inch display was installed on the center console. Previously, the screen diagonal was 6 inches. The infotainment complex with a large display works perfectly with other installed in the sedan equipment.
