To understand why our company prepares pleasant surprises, let’s start with the description of some Thanksgiving traditions.

Thanksgiving Day: Traditions

Thanksgiving for many years remained an unofficial holiday of gratitude to God for well-being in the house and family. The first settlers of the North American continent, together with the indigenous inhabitants who helped them to survive by teaching them farming, fishing, and hunting, began celebrating it in 1621. In subsequent years, the holiday was celebrated solely in case of an abundant harvest.

Officially, Thanksgiving Day in the USA was admitted in 1777 with the date of the celebration in December. However, later in 1789, George Washington determined a more accurate date - the 4th Thursday of November.

One of the main traditions of the holiday is to go to church and thank God for all his favors, and then gather with the whole family at a festive table. Therefore, on the eve of Thanksgiving Day, all America sits on cars and planes: children go to visit their parents.

On the festive table, there are traditional American dishes, which, according to legend, were eaten by the first settlers. They are stuffed baked turkey with cranberry syrup, pumpkin pie, young corn cobs, apples, oranges, chestnuts, nuts, and grapes. The tables are decorated with bright autumn leaves: they are symbols of autumn, gifts of nature, abundance, given by the creator.

This day there is a grand parade in New York, which the largest department store Macy's arranges since 1927. People bring huge inflatable toys depicting cartoon characters to the parade.

Also on the eve of Thanksgiving Day and during the holiday itself, there are various charitable events, which Americans willingly donate money to. Homeless people are fed at charity meals, are given money and gifts.

Throughout the country, there are theatrical performances and processions in historical costumes, including Indian ones.

As it has been mentioned above, one of the most important attributes of Thanksgiving Day is the turkey, because, according to legend, the Indians shot four such birds in the forest, roasted and ate at the festive table with the Americans. Since then turkeys have been specially fattened for this holiday.

Since the end of the last century on Thanksgiving Day, farmers have sent turkeys as a gift to US presidents, and they gladly ate the presented birds at the festive table. But from the middle of the last century, a tradition appeared to "pardon" the turkeys given to the presidents. This tradition was made official by George Bush Sr.: since then, pardoning the turkey for Thanksgiving was not the right, but the annual duty of every American president. Pardoned by presidents turkeys live in zoos until their death.
