Toyota GT86 of the next generation: new name, different platform and engine

Toyota has officially unveiled its version of the compact rear-wheel drive coupe, which was built in collaboration with specialists from Subaru. The European version of the new product was named GT 86, while the analog for the domestic Japanese market is called simply "86". Recall that the history of the model began in 2009 with the display at the Tokyo motor show of the Toyota FT-86 concept.

In 2019, the New-York auto show presented a new four-seat model of the updated front-engine coupe Toyota GT 86.

Exterior

New Toyota GT86 cars received: new bumpers with large air intakes, led lights, running lights. The turn signals changed, and the fog lamps became different. Wheel rims received a new design. Relief hoods became smoothly transitioning to beautiful, narrow xenon devices. The optics made the cars aggressive. There are also headlights with washer pads, and wide wheel arches with alloy 17 inches’ wheels. Rear view mirrors are mounted with legs.The stern with raised trunk lids, where large spoilers are fixed. The car has a powerful bumper with a decorative diffuser and two exhaust pipes.

Interior

Toyota GT 86 interior space is reminiscent of the Mazda RX8: leather interiors with new multimedia devices. Three-spoke, improved handlebars are integrated for control. Instrument panels with tachometers, electronic and conventional speedometers with arrows.

There is the central console with multimedia devices with small screens. Below, there are climate control units. There are also buttons for starting the engines. Next to the transmission there is a parking brake.

Engines and technical equipment

Toyota GT 86 weighing 1t and 180 kg works with two-liter, four-cylinder opposed engines, with 200 HP and 204 Nm of thrust. It has a Toyota D-4S injection system. Six-speed mechanics or six-range automatic transmissions cooperate with the engines. With mechanics, it accelerates in 7.6 seconds. With automatic transmission – in 8.2 seconds. Fuel consumption is 7.8/7.1 liters per 100 km, respectively.

Toyota GT86 is rear-wheel drive and already in the basic versions it has the self-locking differentials Torsen. Suspension elements are MacPherson in the front and double wishbones in the back.

Safety elements

This car is provided with 6 airbags. There are also electronic assistants in the form of AVS with EVD, anti-slip devices, emergency braking amplifiers and mechanisms for course stability.
