Updated Volkswagen Tiguan: "digital" interior, R-version and plug-in hybrid
In 2020, Volkswagen introduced the updated Tiguan. The crossover was distinguished by a “digital” interior, became more similar in appearance to the Golf 8, acquired a sports R-version and a rechargeable eHybrid hybrid modification.
The exterior
The exterior of the restyled Volkswagen Tiguan has changed significantly: the crossover received new bumpers, a hood, front fenders, lighting equipment and a radiator grille. The headlights are now elongated, like the Golf of the eighth generation, you can optionally order matrix LED optics. The version with the R-Line package lost the fog lights in the bumper.
At the rear, the novelty is easily recognizable by the modified pattern of the lamps and the bumper with imitation exhaust nozzles: even the R-Line version does not have an “honest” muffler outlet. In addition, the facelifted Tiguan has a new color palette, additional wheel options ranging from 17 to 20 inches in diameter, and the model name is now written in large under a new 2D logo.
The interior
The interior architecture has remained the same, but there are enough improvements: now the Tiguan has a new steering wheel with touch buttons, a new multimedia system with an 8 or 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a fully touch-sensitive climate control unit. In general, the interior of the crossover has been updated in the spirit of the Arteon family.
"Digitalization" led to the fact that the cluster of physical keys remained only on the central tunnel, and the only surviving puck is responsible for choosing driving modes. But you can manage the infotainment complex using an improved voice assistant.
Specifications
The European range of engines and transmissions includes the following ones: diesel engines have become more environmentally friendly due to the two-stage exhaust purification system, the base 122-horsepower version with a 2.0 TDI engine has appeared in the lineup, and the 240-horsepower turbodiesel will no longer be due to poor emissions performance. Petrol 1.5 and 2.0 engines from 130 to 230 horsepower are the same; the basic versions are combined with a 6-speed "mechanics", the rest is a 7-speed "robot".
The sports top version of the Tiguan R receives a 2.0-liter 320-horsepower (420 Nm) turbo four, an all-wheel drive transmission with an active rear differential, a 7-speed DSG robot, a stiffer suspension lowered by 10 millimeters with adjustable shock absorbers, recalibrated steering and more powerful brakes.
External features of the Tiguan R are the original body kit, special 21-inch alloy wheels, bright blue brake calipers, and an Akrapovic exhaust system with four perforated pipes. Inside, the “charged” R-version is distinguished by large paddle shifters, profiled seats and decor.
In addition, Volkswagen showed a plug-in hybrid version of the Tiguan eHybrid with 245 horsepower. Such a crossover technically repeats the electrified Golf GTE: the power plant consists of a 1.4 turbo four, a six-speed “robot” with a built-in electric motor and a traction battery with a capacity of 13 kilowatt-hours. The all-electric Tiguan has a range of 50 kilometers, 10 kilometers less than the more compact Golf.
