Volvo S90 2018: premium model in sedan and station wagon versions

The Swedish company Volvo Cars presented different versions of a five-seater business sedan with a time interval of one year. By developing the Volvo S90 2018 model, the manufacturer confirmed the presence of technical and creative potential sufficient for the production of modern cars.

With the external similarity with the XC90 crossover, the new model received a more modern body design that corresponds to the category of premium cars.

Exterior

The 2018 Volvo S90 features small side reliefs of an almost flat hood, a proprietary radiator grill configuration with vertical chrome trims and a brand logo.

Narrowed in accordance with the trends of modern automotive design, the head optic units are complemented by exclusive running lights.

Below there are horizontally divided chrome elements of the brake cooling deflectors. Most of the bumper area is used for an air intake device, with triple blocks of additional illumination installed on the sides.

The design of the body sides evokes associations with the classic design of medium-sized German-made sedans. Characteristic features of the car in profile projection:

• the roof silhouette falling towards the stern;
• chromed perimeter of narrowed towards the stern windows;
• a large volume of wheel arches and a wide chrome trim located in the threshold area.

Sports style means a large diameter pneumatics, aerodynamic contours of the body and a slightly raised luggage compartment lid.

Restyling went to a greater extent on the design of the back of the body. A more typical design for sports cars includes:

• a spoiler-type visor located on a compact tailgate;
• embossed bumper with rectangular exhaust tips;

Interior

The latest developments in the field of interior design of premium models were used in the interior design. The range of finishing and especially decorative materials is represented by special types of leather, valuable species of wood, plastic and metal.

• The center of the console is designed in the corporate style of Volvo cars developed in recent years. Almost all control of the onboard equipment functionality is concentrated in a large-format touch-sensitive information-command display. Nearby there is a pair of air diffusers, below there is the climate control system settings panel.
• The area of the tunnel is rationally used. In addition to the transmission mode shift knob, on its surface there is a suspension stiffness switch, wells for storing small-sized items, comfortable armrests and a multimedia equipment control panel for rear passengers.
• The steering wheel functionality has been enhanced due to the cruise control and sound reproduction systems, ports for connecting external digital gadgets located on the spokes.

The updated Volvo C90 2018 received a virtual instrument panel with a digital speedometer and tachometer, a computer monitor displaying operational information about the operating modes of standard equipment.

The new body provides three rear-seat passengers with a lot of free space, which is especially appreciated in long-term trips. The design does not provide for an increase in trunk volume due to the transformation of the rear seats, so its capacity is limited to 500 liters.

Specifications

S90 versions are equipped with 2-liter diesel and gasoline engines with power from 235 to 320 hp. and torque from 300 to 480 Nm.

A test drive on all points confirms the technical and operational characteristics of the engine range provided by the manufacturer.
