The youngest of the siblings, but a very proud one - 2024 Cadillac XT4
Introduced in 2019 as the brand’s new entry into the subcompact crossover SUV category, the Cadillac XT4 is currently the smallest model to wear the Cadillac crest. Virtually unchanged since its debut, the 2024 version receives a minor restyling. The XT4’s front fascia has been refreshed, and the LED daytime running lights have been redesigned to bring the subcompact crossover’s appearance more in line with its larger XT5 and Lyriq EV siblings.
While the overall shape remains the same, these changes, as well as some tweaks to the rear, along with new wheel designs, help keep the XT4’s appearance modern. There are also a few interior upgrades. The 2024 Cadillac XT4 is offered in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.
On the inside, if you don’t look closely, things look pretty much the same. In keeping with the modern infotainment and instrumentation paradigm, the XT4 uses a 33-inch widescreen panel that spans half the width of the dash. It houses all the vehicle information you’ll need to monitor speed and the like, as well as an interface for controlling comfort features. It’s actually two monitors housed in a single housing, but the illusion of a single panel is pretty convincing.
The engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with direct fuel injection. Rated output is 237 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. The XT4’s engine, which pushes the 1,800 kg of curb weight, feels a little over-powered, and it takes 7.7 seconds to reach 62 mph, which leaves it behind its sportier rivals.
The suspension, tuned for comfort rather than performance, delivers a quiet, smooth ride – provided the road surface is good. For all its comfort, the wheels manage to transmit a slight shudder if you suddenly drive onto a gravel road. In the XT4’s defense, some of this firmness is due to its 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires. Whatever the reason, the XT4 doesn’t shield you from road imperfections the way you’d expect from a Cadillac. At the same time, the steering is exactly the opposite, transmitting no feel to the driver’s hands. It’s responsive enough and the brakes are excellent, providing good maneuverability.
Cadillac’s interior design team has created a seemingly upscale cabin. The instrument panel and upper door panels are trimmed in faux leather. What’s more, the architecture of the instrument panel and door panels successfully combines different shapes. The stitching embroidered to the right of the infotainment screen creates an artful impressionistic image of elements of the Cadillac emblem.
The front seats are comfortable and roomy. Legroom is good in any seating position, and all-round visibility is very good—thanks to the higher-than-average seating position in the XT4.
The 33-inch display runs Google’s Android in-car operating system. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the luxury XT4 also gets an upgraded 14-speaker AKG audio system.
Cadillac’s Wi-Fi hotspot supports 5G, and the rearview mirror can be switched between a traditional reflective view and a rear camera. In addition to the touchscreen interface, the XT4 has a rotary dial for accessing infotainment features. There’s also a separate touchpad for controlling climate control features, so you don’t have to dig through menus to get to them.
