2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia — Still the Best Choice for a Driver
2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia — Still the Best Choice for a Driver
For several years after the premiere of the sports sedan from the Italian brand, Giulia continues to attract real drivers.
The currently popular sports crossovers have a number of disadvantages. For example, a high center of gravity, high weight and not always a moderately powerful engine. In addition, the owners of such cars constantly follow the spirit of adventure and drive them as far as possible into the mud to check whether the all-wheel drive, the traction distribution system between the wheels and, figuratively speaking, the 500-horsepower engine are capable of conquering the off-road of the nearest forest belt. With compact sports sedans, everything is the opposite - they do not have all of the above problems at all, so such a car becomes the right choice for a petrolhead or just a person who loves good cars.
If we talk specifically, the best sports sedan over the past few years can rightfully be considered the Italian Alfa Romeo Giulia, which was slightly updated in the 2021 model year and became a little better. I think we should first talk about the downsides of this car. Despite its rather high price, this sedan is inferior in comfort and luxury to its German competitors. For example, the rear sofa, in the Giulia it is only needed to take up space behind the driver - it has a short cushion, an uncomfortable backrest angle and there is practically no legroom for an adult between it and the back of the front seat. In addition, the appearance and performance of the multimedia system in the cabin of the updated Alfa Romeo Giulia are still depressing. At the same time, the updated model received higher quality finishing materials and slightly revised ergonomics. The front seats are still comfortable, but you still won’t be able to adjust them to suit you with the required precision.
The basic version of the sedan is equipped with a 2-liter turbo engine with 280 hp and 420 Nm of torque, which works in tandem with an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. In more expensive trim levels, an all-wheel drive system is available. The rear-wheel drive version accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, the all-wheel drive does the same exercise 0.4 seconds faster. The maximum speed of the car is 240 km/h. The consumption of the 2-liter version of the Giulia with rear wheel drive is 9.8 liters per "hundred" in city mode and 7.1 liters per 100 kilometers when driving on country roads.
But who is interested in basic cars, especially if the lineup includes a model with a Ferrari engine? That's right - no one! The top Giulia Quadrifoglio boasts a 2.9-liter twin-turbo engine with 505 hp and 600 Nm of torque, which works in tandem with an 8-speed automatic and an uncontested rear-wheel drive. Such a sedan behaves much more interestingly on the road: acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes only 3.8 seconds, and the maximum speed is 306 km/h. Such a car consumes 13.8 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 9.4 liters per "hundred" on the highway. Such characteristics transfer the sedan to the category of direct competitors for the BMW M3, Audi RS5 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG C63 s.
What happens in the updated Alfa Romeo Giulia on the move? Even the basic engine, coupled with a well-tuned gearbox and sports suspension, can give the driver a lot of pleasure: the car is easy to control, playful and allows you to easily take any turns at high speed. Despite the fairly stiff suspension, you can also use this sedan every day with pleasure - other sports models are excessively stiff, the owner of such a car can be easily identified by bruises on the lower back. And if you order Giulia with adaptive suspension, this will make the car ideal in any driving mode.
